Rack and physical installation

Linked workstream: the home NAS restructure
This workstream supplies the two NVMe drives for the new server and expands backup capacity. Starting from a Synology DS1522+ (Volume 1: 3× ~1 TB SSD btrfs RAID5; Volume 2: 2× 18 TB HDD btrfs RAID1; NVMe RAID1 cache), the sequence: install a third 18 TB HDD and reshape Volume 2 to RAID5 (24–48 h minimum, on UPS power, no reboots) → verify the backup vault with an integrity check and spot restore → remove the NVMe cache → rebuild Volume 1 as RAID1 on two SSDs and restore shares → health-test both released NVMe drives and install them in the R740xd.
- Purchase the third 18 TB HDD (used, $320.00).
- Remove the NVMe cache and release both drives.
- Complete the Volume 2 RAID5 reshape on UPS power.
- Verify backups with an integrity check and a representative spot restore.
- Rebuild Volume 1 as RAID1; restore shares, ACLs, and packages.
