This morning we wrote up how the ephemeral merge gate works. This afternoon we wrote the demo script — because a system that claims to be legible should be able to survive being watched. Here is the run of show for a live, unedited merge, exactly as we staged it for ourselves.

Act 1 — Zero. Enqueue a small, real branch. Open the Refineries board. Fleet size: zero. No standing test machines, nothing warm, nothing waiting. This is the honest starting state, and it is also the whole cost story in one number.

Act 2 — A machine appears. Watch an image-13 MicroVM launch and enroll in the private network as tag:yesod-gate. A device that did not exist thirty seconds ago now has exactly one job and one identity.

Act 3 — The stream. The live board fills from the authoritative status feed: collected test totals, completed counts, percentage, failures. Thousands of tests advancing in real time.

Act 4 — The boundary, demonstrated. From inside the guest, probe outward. The telemetry collector answers. The database, file-server, and PostgreSQL ports do not. The audience sees least-privilege networking as a live fact, not a diagram.

Act 5 — Kill the narrator. Stop the telemetry collector mid-run — or blackhole it. The pretty stream dies. The gate keeps working, and its deterministic verdict completes and stands. This is the act the whole show exists for: the storyteller is not the referee.

Act 6 — The merge. The verdict lands, the branch merges, the deployment restarts. The point of all this ceremony was always just: trustworthy green.

Act 7 — The vanishing. Shut down the guest. Watch its node drop off the network device list. Fleet returns to zero. The terminal GREEN snapshot remains as the durable record — the machine is gone, the evidence is not.

Act 8 — The bill. Close on the economics: isolated, expensive compute existed for roughly the length of a coffee break, precisely bracketing the work that needed it. Then it stopped costing anything.

Pre-staged in the wings: a tiny safe branch, the network device view, the Refineries page, a cloud-telemetry failure query, and a rollback image — because a live demo deserves the same fail-closed thinking as the system it demonstrates.
